WATCH: Shakib Al Hasan slaps fan after winning parliamentary seat

NEW DELHI: Bangladesh star cricketer Shakib Al Hasan secured a parliamentary seat in a resounding win during Sunday's general election, which was boycotted by the opposition.

The 36-year-old all-rounder, who captains the national team across all formats, triumphed over his opponent by a staggering margin of over 150,000 votes in Magura, a western town in his constituency, as confirmed by the district's chief administrator, Abu Naser Beg.

"It was a landslide victory," he said.

WATCH:

Shakib, a candidate from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's ruling Awami League party, hasn't offered an immediate comment.

Prime Minister Hasina is widely anticipated to secure a fifth term in power, especially since the main opposition, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), boycotted the vote.

Shakib holds a unique distinction as the sole individual to have simultaneously held the number-one all-rounder position in all three cricket formats, according to the International Cricket Council.

The 36-year-old star player has represented Bangladesh in 66 Tests, 247 ODIs, and 117 T20Is so far.
