WATCH: Police evict ticketless people as fans climb through vents to enter stadium ahead of Copa America final

Lionel Messi led Argentina to lift the coveted Copa America trophy for a record 16th time, defeating Colombia 1-0 in extra time at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. Lautaro Martinez scored the decisive goal in extra time after the match ended 0-0 following 90 minutes of regulation play.

Chaotic Start to the Final

The highly anticipated final experienced a delayed start due to ticketless fans storming the stadium. The match's kickoff was postponed by over an hour as thousands of fans without tickets rushed security and attempted to force their way into the venue, according to organizers.

Videos circulating on social media showed security personnel scuffling with fans who were running across concourses and trying to breach the gates of the Hard Rock Stadium. Some fans were seen attempting to enter through a passage in the roof that resembled an air-conditioning duct.

Police managed to close the gates and initiate a lockdown, leaving scores of people stuck outside attempting to gain entry before the match could commence. The chaos led to both teams being taken off the field temporarily.

Witnesses reported seeing several people being ejected from the stadium by security staff. Some players noted that their families were caught up in the turmoil outside and were unable to enter the venue, which is set to host matches during the 2026 World Cup.
