NEW DELHI: Australia pace spearhead Pat Cummins became the first bowler to take back-to-back hat-tricks in T20Is to ensure the Afghanistan innings ended on a dud after a superb start from the openers in their T20 World Cup Super Eights clash at Kingstown, St Vincent on Sunday.
T20 WORLD CUP:
Cummins dismissed Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan, Karim Janat and Gulbadin Naib to achieve the rare feat.
Cummins first had Rashid Khan caught by Tim David at long-on on the last ball of the 18th over.
On the first ball of his next over, Karim Janat was also caught by Tim David at long-on and on the next ball Gulbadin Naib was caught by Glenn Maxwell at deep mid-wicket for Cummins to get to the milestone.
Cummins could have had 4 wickets in 4 balls but Nangeyalia Kharote was dropped by David Warner at deep point.
Riding on the fine bowling performance, Australia restricted Afghanistan to 148/6.
Cummins had taken a hat-trick in Australia's last match against Bangladesh at Antigua on Friday.
Cummins had dismissed Bangladesh's Mahmudullah, Mahedi Hasan, Towhid Hridoy for the first hat-trick of T20 World Cup 2024.
