Michigan State put up a strong effort but ultimately came up short in a big-time matchup with No. 1 Kansas on Tuesday.

The Spartans were in a back-and-forth battle with the Jayhawks before Kansas pulled away in the final minutes of the game for the 77-69 win. This matchup between Michigan State and Kansas was part of the annual Champions Classic event.

This marked the Spartans’ first loss of the season. Michigan State is now 2-1 overall and will return to the court on Saturday in a home matchup against Bowling Green.
