It has been a great start to the season for second-year cornerback Martin Emerson Jr with the Cleveland Browns. And with the game tied in the third quarter in the heated battle against the San Francisco 49ers, Emerson Jr. got his first career pick off of quarterback Brock Purdy.
According to PFF, he came into the game with the lowest completion percentage when targeted and has had a good game so far. The Browns’ defense has produced a ton of pressure on Purdy keeping him uncomfortable in the pocket leading to some errant throws.
Though the team wasn’t able to capitalize off the turnover they have shown that their defense is the real deal so far against the league’s best in the 49ers. Purdy just hasn’t looked good at all today facing one of the league’s best. The team will need the defense to continue to play at this level if they want to give San Francisco their first loss of the year.
