'This is so awkward': Watch Liz Truss get grilled by schoolchildren on campaign visit

Liz Truss was asked to evict Boris Johnson from Downing Street by schoolchildren at a campaign event

LIZ Truss has faced an excruciating exchange with schoolchildren on her campaign trail to become the next leader of the Conservative Party and the UK’s next Prime Minister.

During a visit to charity Little Miracles in Peterborough the leadership candidate was filmed by Sky News sitting down at a table with young children.

After Truss introduces herself one child can be heard saying: “This is so awkward”.

While another expressed their hopes for who would become the UK’s next leader: “I think Larry [the Downing Street cat] should be Prime Minister”.

Some of the children then grill Truss about Boris Johnson.

As one child asked “where is Boris Johnson?” another exclaimed “we hate him”.

To which Truss replied: “Boris is back at 10 Downing Street”.

One child can then be heard asking Truss for a favour if she becomes Prime Minister: “Do me a favour - when you become Prime Minister - evict him”.

“He will have to move out at that point, that is true,” Truss replied.

At the same event, while surrounded by members of the press, Truss was reported to say that “the problem with being a politician is that you can’t fire the press”.

It comes as a resurfaced video of Truss speaking at the 1994 Liberal Democrat conference showed that she previously expressed support for referendums on “major constitutional issues”.
