Watch: King Charles praises US and UK’s ‘greatest alliance’ in historic Congress address

Watch as King Charles III uses a historic speech to Congress on Tuesday (28 April) to praise the US and UK's relationship against a backdrop of global uncertainty, as he and the Queen continued their state visit.

His Majesty used his historic speech to emphasise the importance of the U.S.-U.K. alliance as well as NATO to a joint session.

“From the depths of the Atlantic to the disastrously melting ice-caps of the Arctic, the commitment and expertise of the United States Armed Forces and its allies lie at the heart of NATO, pledged to each other’s defence, protecting our citizens and interests, keeping North Americans and Europeans safe from our common adversaries,” Charles said to a huge round of applause.

Charles's speech to both Houses is likely to be seen as acknowledging tensions between Donald Trump and Sir Keir Starmer, who have clashed over the US leader’s war against Iran.

It marks only the second time a British monarch has addressed a joint meeting of Congress, the first being the late Queen Elizabeth II in 1991.

Earlier on Tuesday, Charles and Camilla were honoured with a ceremonial welcome to the White House.

During a speech on the South Lawn, Trump told the King that his mother had a crush on him as a young Prince Charles.
