WATCH: Is Boston’s Jayson Tatum a top-five player after besting Ja Morant, and Kevin Durant?

With all of the Boston Celtics’ recent success on the court with their league-leading defense and top-10 offense under rising superstar forward Jayson Tatum, it can be hard to have a tempered view of the team as a fan — never mind as an analyst.

On one hand, one tries not to deny a rolling team its flowers, particularly after becoming a serious threat of a team in the postseason following a rough start to their season. On the other hand, discerning what is a rough start and what is simply statistical and schedule variance is a real challenge, as are our other biases.

There are rumbles of awarding Tatum the elite status of having earned the right to be called a top-five player in the league — is this going a bit too far, even after coming out on top of teams with players like Kevin Durant, Ja Morant and Kyrie Irving on them?

The hosts of the  NBC Sports Boston “Early Edition” show deabted this very question recently, with Chris Forsberg and Phil Perry join Trenni Kusnierek sharing their thoughts on it in the video embedded above.
