Watch: Hilarious Temple Bar video where Irish people test out their American football skills

Dublin is buzzing this weekend as approximately 16,000 die-hard American supporters descend on the capital to cheer on their respective college football teams in the Aer Lingus Football Classic.

The Aviva Stadium will be close to capacity between that influx of loyal followers as well as the more casual crowd of locals out for a day out.

The two combatants are the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Northwestern Wildcats as they will be squaring off in what is their season opener.

While the NFL has continually grown in popularity over the years here and has developed a passionate fanbase, college football has not resonated with Irish people to quite the same degree.

Apart from the most obvious obstacle of it not being as accessible on TV here, there's also a huge cultural gap that explains why an Irish sports fan might find it bizarre that college sports dominate the Saturday schedule for their American counterparts in much the same way that the NFL does on a Sunday.

You certainly can't imagine the Sigerson Cup ever rivalling the senior inter-county GAA Championship for mass interest but with no lower professional divisions below the NFL, college football has always had major significance for many fans stateside who may not have a professional team in their city or even state.

For the weekend that's in it, the Cornhuskers' media team took to Temple Bar late on Friday night to quiz some locals on the sport as well as give them the opportunity to do their best Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers impersonation.

The results were pretty entertaining with seven-time Super Bowl champion Brady the sole player anyone seemed to know.

A word of praise too for the chap who gave a pretty compelling if incorrect guess as to what a 'Cornhusker' is by suggesting it might be some kind of hot dog/corn dog variation.
