Watch Gio van Bronckhorst lift first title after Rangers exit as he joins Robin van Persie in wild Feyenoord celebrations

It might not have come for him at Ibrox but Giovanni van Bronckhorst ended his 2022/23 season with a huge smile on his face and a league title in his hands.

The Dutchman was sacked by Rangers in November following a disastrous Champions League campaign and having fallen nine points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race. In the end it became an improbable task for his replacement Michael Beale.

Van Bronckhorst has since been linked with a return to management with FC Twente but nothing has came to fruition. And on Sunday, his former club Feyenoord secured the Eredivisie title thanks to a convincing 3-0 victory over Go Ahead Eagles. It was their first league triumph since Van Bronckhorst was in the De Kuip hot seat six years ago and left PSV Eindhoven trailing by eight points in second, with only two games remaining.

Van Brockhorst joined fellow Feyenoord legend Robin van Persie to hand over the trophy in front of the 47,000 crowd as the party got underway in Rotterdam. Ex-Hibernian goalkeeper Ofir Marciano was also among those who lifted the silverware after joining the Dutch giants upon leaving Easter Road in 2021.

Arne Slot currently serves as the head coach at Feyenoord, although his name has been associated with various job opportunities in England because of his recent success. Spurs are the latest club to be eyeing his services. Ajax have dominated football in the Netherlands for the past three years but find themselves down in fourth place with three games left to play.
