After missing three games with a foot injury, Gary Payton II wasted no time making an impact in his return to the court against the San Antonio Spurs. The Golden State Warriors guard helped welcome No. 1 overall pick from the 2023 draft Victor Wembanyama with an emphatic block at the rim.
With Wembanyama running the floor on a fast break, the 6-foot-3 Payton II rose to swipe away the 7-foot-6 rookie’s layup attempt. Payton II sent Wembanyama’s shot into the second row of the crowd sitting on the baseline.
Following Payton II’s block, the Chase Center crowd exploded with a frenzy of cheers.

Although Wembanyama was blocked early, the No. 1 overall pick impressed during his debut in San Francisco. The French big-man tallied 22 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the field to go along with eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks in 35 minutes.
