Watch: First look at young Dublin actress as Matilda in upcoming movie

Movie fans have been given their first glimpse of young Dublin actress Alisha Weir as Matilda in the upcoming movie adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic novel.

Matilda The Musical will be released exclusively in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on December 2 and Netflix will release the film across the world (excluding the UK and Ireland) over the Christmas period.

Alisha is signed to Maureen Ward’s Talent Academy and her previous roles have included Mark O’Connor’s Darklands in 2019 as well as the role of Molly in the musical Annie at Dublin's National Concert Hall.

This brand new take on the Tony and Olivier award-winning musical also stars Emma Thompson as the villainous Miss Trunchbull and Captain Marvel actress Lashana Lynch as Miss Honey.

Matilda's parents are played by Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough, and comedian Sindhu Vee plays Mrs. Phelps.

The film is described as "an inspirational musical tale of an extraordinary girl who discovers her superpower and summons the remarkable courage, against all odds, to help others change their stories, whilst also taking charge of her own destiny."

Matilda The Musical is directed by Tony Award-winning director Matthew Warchus and produced by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title, Jon Finn, and Luke Kelly of The Roald Dahl Story Company.
