A service of thanksgiving for Her Majesty the Queen has taken place at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh after King Charles led a procession behind his mother’s coffin.
King Charles III has returned to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, before he will hold audience with Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and later meet with politicians at the Scottish Parliament.
On Monday night, the King and Queen Consort, Duke of York, Earl of Wessex and Princess Royal will lead a vigil for their mother in the Scottish capital as members of the public view the Queen’s coffin lying in state.Earlier the King spoke of the “weight of history” as he addressed Westminster Hall in his first visit to Parliament as sovereign.
