The Kansas City Chiefs have had some fortunate timing when giving their players the microphone this season.
In Week 1, we got Justin Reid mic’d up when he found out he’d be the team’s emergency kicker. Now, we’ve got Travis Kelce mic’d up during a legendary four-touchdown performance in prime time against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 5.
“Monday Night Football,” Kelce exclaimed. “You know I’m going to make some plays, baby.”
Well, sure enough, he was right about that. He was also right about the type of game that it’d be.
“We’re going to be in a dogfight, I promise you that,” Kelce told his teammates.
When things weren’t going right early, Kelce was the one on the sidelines trying to get his guys ready to respond.
“How are we going to handle it,” Kelce yelled at the bench. “Get fired up! Get fired up! Backs against the wall, let’s go!”
He had a little fun on the field too. Taking a defensive back to the ground on a run and saying, “Pancake!”
He clearly enjoyed going against Maxx Crosby.
“Hey, I love that shit, god,” Kelce said to Crosby. “Keep bringing it. I love the challenge.”
After his second touchdown of the game, Kelce was on the sideline telling Eric Bieniemy, “Feed me.” Well, they definitely kept with him.
Before the defense went on the field for the Raiders’ final offensive possession, Kelce was there getting them fired up as well.
“Need it, D! Need it!”
After the final play, he immediately goes over to rookie CB Joshua Williams and tells him what’s what.
“Way to step up big,” he said. “Way to step up big, dog!”
Finally, his sportsmanship is on full display talking to Derek Carr and Maxx Crosby after the game
“Love y’all boys,” Kelce said. “I respect the hell out of you. Keep fightin’ baby, we’ll see y’all boys in January.”
It was a perfect occasion for Kelce to be mic’d up, that’s for sure.
