Watch Celtic hero Neil Lennon and Omonia players salute fans as ex-Rangers man nets in Europa win

Neil Lennon and his Omonia players lapped up the applause from their travelling fans after a stunning Europa League win in Belgium.

The former Celtic gaffer and midfielder moved over to Cyprus earlier this year and earned a crack at European football after domestic cup success and a first trophy on foreign soil as a manager. The draw paired then with Belgian outfit Gent and after last night's first tie, Lenny and Co have one foot in the group stage draw.

Former Rangers man Brandon Barker - who played under Hoops hero Lenny at Hibs - scored the decisive second to give the away side a 2-0 win and the advantage ahead of next week's home return. Another one-time Celtic man in the shape of Adam Matthews was also part of the team that ran out winners in Belgium.

Charalambos Charalambous had fired the away side into the lead before Barker's goal after his introduction from the bench.

Gent are yet to taste defeat in their domestic league with two wins and two draws this season while Omonia are yet to get their campaign up and running. However, they could be handed a major boost going into the season with Europa League football within their grasp ahead of next week's return in Cyprus.

The result clearly impressed the travelling support who showed their appreciation as Lennon and Co went over to applaud them following the full-time whistle.

A familiar face to Lennon are also bidding to reach the group stages in the shape of Hearts. They will entertain FC Zurich under the lights at Tynecastle in their return fixture next week with the Swiss side 2-1 ahead in the tie.

It's set to be a blockbuster occasion in the capital for Robbie Neilson and his men.
