Hopefully for the Carolina Panthers, they just saw the first of many connections between their top two rookies on Friday night.
During the offense’s second possession of this evening’s exhibition matchup with the New York Giants, quarterback Bryce Young found wide receiver Jonathan Mingo for a first down on their first official (preseason) completion. The hookup between the 2023 draft’s first overall pick and 39th overall pick was good for a 15-yard gain.

Both showed a bit of why they were drafted when they were drafted by Carolina—with Young making the smart and quick decision and the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Mingo flattening Giants safety Jason Pinnock en route to some extra yardage.
The touch eventually culminated into a 15-play, 62-yard drive—one, thanks to the help of a ton of yellow laundry, lasted over 10 minutes. Kicker Matthew Wright capped it all off with the first points of the summer for Carolina, booting through a 37-yard field goal.
