- President Donald Trump has asked Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign as U.S. ambassador to Greece after she allegedly asked a Trump donor to pay off her $100,000 American Express bill.
- White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia said during her first-ever White House briefing Tuesday that Guilfoyle has been asked to resign, adding: “She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well.”
- Trump had said he was “looking into” firing Guilfoyle after The Wall Street Journal published a report alleging she asked Eric Deters, a Kentucky attorney and former congressional candidate, to send her the money days before her confirmation hearing in July 2025.
- Guilfoyle allegedly texted Deters, “Honey please I need you to get this done for me today,” with a praying emoji and a PDF containing payment instructions from AmEx. “You could just send it here. It won’t show up anywhere if you wire money to American Express that’s all that will show. Please.”
- Deters has now vowed to sue Guilfoyle after her legal team claimed the $100,000 she requested was for unpaid fees he owed.
