Warzone brings Blackout energy back with Black Ops Royale

Call of Duty is bringing back the classic Blackout feeling through Black Ops Royale, and it’s going to be a brand-new battle royale experience in Warzone.

Black Ops Royale is fully inspired by Black Ops 4’s battle royale mode and will launch on March 12, 2026, as a part of BO7 Season 2 Reloaded update, removing some of Warzone’s most defining features, with no custom loadouts, Buy Stations, or Gulag.

Instead, it goes back to the basics, where everyone drops in with just a pistol and a wingsuit, and has to loot their way up. Weapons and gear are found on the ground or in loot containers, with rarity tiers that determine attachment strength and performance.

Avalon is the new Blackout playground

Black Ops Royale will take place on Avalon, the new large-scale map from Black Ops 7 that’ll be folded into Warzone. It’ll support up to 100 players in four-player squads.

Movement in this mode will be built around BO7’s omnimovement, including sliding, diving, and more advanced traversal, and there are extra tools like grappling hooks for aggressive repositioning and vertical plays.

Swimming and water combat will also be present, offering more rotation options and late-game circles. Instead of standard gas, Black Ops Royale will use red fear gas that can spawn zombies and special loot opportunities as it closes in.

Redeploys, Cradle Breaches, Perks, and more essential features are coming

While loadouts won’t be a part of it, Black Ops Royale will use a few new systems to keep fights interesting. Weapons will have a rarity value, like Fortnite and Apex Legends, and can come with archetypes, such as improving handling for flankers or enhancing ranged control.

You can pick up consumable perks that last a couple of minutes, and you can stack up to five at once. Inventory gets expanded so you can carry multiple lethals, tacticals, field upgrades, and killstreaks, but you can’t hoard duplicates, and there’ll be no UAVs to spam.

Even without the Gulag, you’d be able to respawn in Black Ops Royale via Redeploys, which are handled through tokens and towers scattered across Avalon.

Cradle Breaches will be a key feature of this mode. These are risky, high-reward events where players can trigger containment breaches for a shot at top-tier loot, including iconic weapons like the Ray Gun.

Treyarch and Raven have also planned seasonal updates for Black Ops Royale. Starting in Season 3, Avalon will evolve with more traversal options like additional ziplines and boats to improve rotations and keep the map feeling fresh.
