Warzone 2 update that fixes game crashing bug on PC is live now

PC players who've been experiencing crashes when playing Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 will want to update their game as soon as possible.

Following a slew of reports from PC players of their game's crashing unexpectedly in Call of Duty: Warzone 2, developers Infinity Ward and Activision game studio Beenox have confirmed that an update has now been rolled out that aims to fix these issues.

Beenox acknowledged PC players' gripes in a tweet earlier this week saying that that "the team continues to work hard on improving the game on PC," and asking players to keep the feedback coming. Well they got what they asked for, with players responding in droves. While there were reports of various problems the community has been encountering, issues around Warzone 2.0 crashing dominated the replies.

Happily, it didn't take too long for Beenox to tackle whatever bug was responsible, and in the early hours of this morning – or late last night, depending on your time zone – the developer confirmed that a PC update has now been deployed that will fix Warzone 2.0 crashing on PC. The patch will also address a bug that caused the frame rate to drop "for a moment" when moving the mouse over a locked Operator

A drop in the ocean

It's great to see these problems getting sorted out, but there's still a laundry list of bugs to get to. There's still no fix for the frame rate drops at the start of the game, or while navigating the menu, for example. This gripe was flagged repeatedly in response to the initial tweet, and it's something I've run into as well. .

The community response to the overhauled and revamped battle royale title has been largely positive, but Warzone 2.0's launch hasn't been smooth sailing for Activision. Since its launch a couple of weeks ago, the game has been plagued by bugs, and it seems like a new game-breaking exploit is being discovered every other day.

I appreciate a triple A launch of a live service game isn't going to be a flawless experience these days, but some of the problems that have reared their head so far have been baffling. One particular standout was Warzone 2.0 launching with a non-functioning Social Menu. Bear in mind that this menu is the primary way for players to invite others to their party and voice channels, so as you'd expect, there was quite the backlash. But at least it was fixed a couple of days post-release.

There have also been various exploits and glitches that players have run into, with the most high-profile being a bug that was giving out a ridiculous amount of XP when completing Most Wanted contracts, and led to the removal of Warzone 2.0 contracts from the game entirely. This move was said to be temporary, but Most Wanted contracts are still absent over one week later.

Most infuriatingly of all though, is the complete omission of a Barracks tab. As it stands, players currently have no way to track their Warzone 2.0 KD (kills-to-death ratio), the number of wins they've clocked up, and other performance stats we've historically had access to. Activision hasn't offered an explanation as to why this basic feature is missing, but the data isn't even available for third-party tracking apps to access.

You can check your stats in Modern Warfare 2 so it's not like Activision has axed it from the game. Presumable it'll be added at a later date, but it's just another factor that adds to the feeling that the game has been rushed out of the door to hit a release date before it was properly polished.
