Plenty of hardcore Call of Duty players were less than impressed when Warzone 2 arrived, with many citing a dumbing down of the game to attract players from other popular Battle Royales.
While some points were valid - do we really need Paul Pogba and Lionel Messi operator skins? - others were just a case of some people not liking change.
One omission that certainly did not go down well was the lack of the ever-popular Resurgence map mode in Call of Duty Warzone 2. The map mode even disappeared from the rebooted Warzone when it reappeared as Call of Duty Warzone Caldera a few weeks after Modern Warfare 2 arrived. But now, if leaks are to be believed, Resurgence might be er, resurging to a Warzone 2.0 near you in the very near future.
What is the Warzone Resurgence Map?
Unlike regular Warzone maps, Resurgence allowed players to respawn upon death as long there were other remaining squad members. This ceased as you got towards the end of the round (obviously, or it would never end!) but for a time at least it solved the issue of being taken out by a crafty sniper at the beginning of the game and having to sit out the rest of the proceedings.
With Resurgence not being available in Caldera, it has meant that there has been no way to play the mode for the last month or so, but intrepid Call of Duty leakers have good reason to believe that sources have confirmed (yes that does sound more unconfirmed than confirmed I grant you) that Resurgence will be coming back to Warzone when Season 2 lands.
At this stage, nobody knows what the actual Resurgence map will be, as it is a mode that can be applied to anything really. Internet detectives are confident it will be based on World at War’s Castle map, as leaked screenshots showed familiar areas there, but that could just be for testing purposes. Castle could even be totally re-imagined. Either way, hopefully, we might not have too long to wait.
When is Warzone 2 Season 2?
Activision Blizzard has not confirmed the actual start date for Season 2 of Warzone, but the existing season is due to close out at the end of January so we would expect it to launch, hopefully including Resurgence, around February 1, 2023. This all makes sense as it also ties in with when the current MW2 Battle Pass expires and it becomes time to get out the bank cards again for the main game.
