AI combatants are about to get a long overdue nerf in Warzone 2 as more Strongholds get added to the game. Cue the applause.
AI soldiers have been a part of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 since launch and predominantly appear in Strongholds and Blacksite locations around the big map. But many players – including myself – have often found these AI to be overpowered. The individual AI soldiers are super accurate and because there are so many in these locations, it often results in an early trip to the Gulag. As a battle royale purist, AI soldiers have no business being in this game mode in the first place, in my opinion – never mind them being strong enough to kill human players. But, I digress.
Activision and Raven Software have released the full Warzone 2.0 Season 1 Reloaded patch notes ahead or the update which goes live at 6pm GMT / 1pm ET / 10am PT today. Some of the most significant changes concern the AI soldiers that populate certain locations in Al Mazrah. Thankfully, they're getting a big nerf, both in regards to the individual AI and the sheer amount of enemies. Hopefully, this makes them less annoying to tangle with.
Power to the (human) people
If you've been as infuriated with the enemy AI as I have, then that patch notes will be godsend. Of course, there are quality-of-life improvements, weapon rebalancing, and a lot more in there, but the AI has been a thorn in my side since launch and they're finally getting fixes. Here's a brief rundown of what the devs are tweaking to make the Warzone 2.0 AI less of a headache: .
Stronghold & Blacksite AI
- Increased number of active Strongholds to 5, up from 3
- AI combatants
- Damage per bullet reduced by 26%
- Number of units per site reduced by 50%
- Further reductions based on Squad sizes
- AI combatant reinforcements
- Doubled time between waves
- Number of units per wave reduced by 30%
Black Site
- AI combatants now have additional Armor
- Rewards an upgraded version of the Stronghold UAV which will sweep twice as far and about 30% faster
So not only have the individual AI been heavily nerfed, with the damage-per-bullet being reduced by 26%, but the number of unit-per-site has been reduced by a huge 50%, which should make it a lot easier to grab that all-important custom loadout using the Stronghold method.
Another positive from these changes is that there will be an increased number of Strongholds, with there now being five active Strongholds at any point in time, rather than three. This will allow more players and more squads to get a chance of grabbing their loadout in any given game, and there's less risk in trying to clear a them.
But the exact opposite can be said for the changes to Black Site locations because Activision has given the AI combatants in these locations additional armour. Although the additional reward of an upgraded Stronghold UAV balances the risk vs reward of attempting to clear these locations. So swings and roundabouts!
