Warzone 2 is once again desperately trying to chase the Fortnite gravy train as it takes a page from its book by adding popular streamers to the game.
Warzone 2's latest update, Warzone 2 Season 3 Reloaded, brought along some new additions to the game, like Warzone Ranked and DMZ Koschei Complex. But hidden amongst all of the exciting news from yesterday was two prominent Call of Duty streamers, TimTheTatman and Nickmercs, announcing that they'll also be making their debut in Warzone 2 with their own Operator skin bundles later this month. They join the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr, Paul Pogba, and most recently, NBA legend Kevin Durant – who made his debut alongside Warzone 2 Season 3 Reloaded.
Nickmercs was first to announce his Operator bundle with TimTheTatman's announcement following shortly after. Both skins will arrive in-game on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, and will be available for purchase in the item shop. Tim's bundle will include a Lachmann sub blueprint titled "The Tatty Fatty" and an M4 blueprint titled "The Gatman". The specifics of Nickmercs' bundle haven't been revealed yet, other than it'll include two weapon blueprints, a charm and a sticker. Neither bundle has a price just yet, but most Operator bundles have cost 2,400 CoD Points in the past.
Stream of the crop
Obviously, Fortnite changed the game entirely once it started introducing crossover skins into the game, with everyone following suit in a desperate attempt to capture even a smidge of Fortnite's success. The Fortnite gravy train has gotten so powerful to the point where once-serious tactical military shooters like Rainbow Six Siege are adding characters from Yakuza to do battle with The Undertaker from WWE. Fortnite added its first Streamer skin back in 2020 with Ninja, so it was only a matter of time before Warzone 2 followed suit and added some streamers of its own.
My biggest question, as someone who is generally a Call of Duty outsider, is what is the appeal of skins in a FPS game? In something like Fortnite, you get to take in the hilarity of your squad dressing up as Goku Black, John Cena, Ariana Grande and a giant sentient bush – which you don't really get if you don't actually get to see your character in game. But hey, if it gives Warzone 2 a boost in a time where it's continuing to falter, who am I to judge?
