Warriors suffer 137-128 road loss to Thunder

OKLAHOMA CITY — Even with Stephen Curry playing at his best, the Warriors still can’t seem to correct their road woes.

Golden State suffered yet another ugly road loss Tuesday night, with the Oklahoma City Thunder beating the defending champs, 137-128.

The Warriors turned the ball over 21 times and allowed the Thunder to shoot 53.2% from the field and 45.9% from 3-point range, which spoiled a 40-point game by Curry.

The Warriors managed to cut the Thunder’s 15-point lead in the fourth down to six in the game’s final two minutes, but that would be the closest they would get.

The Warriors successfully overturned a call with 1:12 left in the fourth, preventing the Thunder from getting to the free-throw line, only to have coach Steve Kerr crumple to the ground when a referee whistled Donte DiVincenzo for a loose ball foul.

After Luguentz Dort knocked down a pair a free throws, and just like that a two-possession game turned into a three.

Moments later, Curry appeared to get a break when Aaron Wiggins was whistled for a foul on the Warriors’ 3-point attempt. But the Thunder successfully overturned that.

After a Jonathan Kuminga 3-point attempt rimmed out, the Warriors sluggishly walked toward the bench as they watched the game clock wind down Tuesday night. They knew this one was over.

Curry, playing in his second game after missing a month of action with a leg injury, knocked down 10 of his 16 3-point attempts. Klay Thompson added 23 points and Kuminga had 21, but it wasn’t enough.

Draymond Green appeared frustrated with Jordan Poole after the fourth-year guard passed up an open Green for Thompson. The possession ended with a turnover, the Warriors’ 10th of the half, but while everyone ran back to get on defense, Green stayed put, leaving the Warriors to play four-on-five.

While Golden State is 27-7 at home this season, the Warriors are now 7-25 outside of San Francisco and have no answers for their dropoff on the road.

The back-to-back road losses extinguished any momentum that the Warriors had gained during its undefeated five-game homestand. The Warriors remain in fifth place in the Western Conference playoff race, sitting a half game up from the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwovles, who are in sixth and seventh place, respectively.

The Warriors will close out their road trip in Memphis on Thursday. It’s unclear whether Grizzlies star Ja Morant will be back from his indefinite suspension after he was seen on Instagram Live flashing what was believed to be a gun last weekend.
