Warriors rookie Jonathan Kuminga scores two points in NBA Rising Stars Game

After initially not being included in the field of rookies, sophomores and G League players at the Rising Stars Game at NBA All-Star weekend in Cleveland, Warriors rookie Jonathan Kuminga got the call for the game when Indiana Pacers rookie Chris Duarte was ruled out due to injury.

Kuminga joined Charlotte’s LaMelo Ball, Toronto’s Scottie Barnes, Chicago’s Ayo Dosunmu, Minnesota’s Jaden McDaniels, Denver’s Bones Hyland and G League Ignite representative Scoot Henderso on NBA Hall of Famer Gary Payton’s team on Friday in Cleveland.

In the new tournament format edition of the game, Team Payton drew a matchup with 2021 No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham and Team Rick Barry in the first round. The first team to get to 50 points advanced to the final round of the Rising Stars game.

In his appearance in the Rising Stars game, Kuminga was quiet, scoring only two points on 1-of-4 shooting from the field. The No. 7 overall pick from the 2021 NBA draft missed both of his attempts from beyond the arc. Along with his two points, Kuminga got into the boxscore with an assist.

Kuminga and Team Payton failed to advance to the next round of the mini-tournament with a loss to Team Barry, 50-48. Houston’s Jae’Sean Tate sealed Team Barry’s victory with a late bucket to hit the 50 point mark.

With Kuminga’s stint at the Rising Stars Game over, Juan Toscano-Anderson, Steph Curry and Andrew Wiggins will represent the Golden State Warriors for the rest of All-Star weekend.
