The Golden State Warriors reportedly struck out in an audacious attempt to acquire LeBron James ahead of the February 8 trade deadline. However, that doesn’t mean they won’t continue searching for star veteran names to help boost their aging roster when the offseason rolls around. According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, the Warriors could be in the market to acquire a veteran superstar this summer.
Slater mentioned LeBron, Paul George and Kevin Durant as potential targets, assuming they become free agents or opt out of their current contracts. However, any potential pursuit of another star would mean the front office needs to perform some cap gymnastics to make the money work.

Furthermore, pursuing a free-agent star veteran could be bad news for Klay Thompson, who will be an unrestricted free agent in the summer. The Warriors payroll is already at eye-watering levels. Bringing in another star name with a star-level salary without shedding payroll elsewhere is highly unlikely.
Nevertheless, if the front office is committed to maximizing the final years of Steph Curry’s career, finding another aging star to help boost the roster’s overall production could be a legitimate option. Who that star could be will likely be the talking point once the playoffs are over.
