The final day of the California Classic saw a similar result for the Summer League edition of the Golden State Warriors, falling to the Miami Heat 94-70. Score doesn’t matter too much in Summer League though, it’s all about productivity from different prospects and showing coaches and scouts what you can do.
The tough part for the Warriors though was that no one really had a good game however there were a few decent moments and positive things to build off of heading into Las Vegas. The Warriors had a tough time stopping Miami’s 2022 first-round selection Nikola Jovic. The big man had a great game, scoring 25 points while shooting 5-for-7 from three.
Other than Jovic, the Warriors did a good job containing the Heat with 13 points being the next highest Heat scorer. The worrying thing was not the defense though, but the scoring from the team or lack thereof. Moses Moody really struggled in the game only scoring 13 points on 5-for-15 shooting.
Moody was highly rated coming into the game so obviously his struggles made it tough for the team. Once the full selection of young Warriors prospects is available, it will be a much better assessment of where Moody is. Gui Santos shot well from three but had a tough time generating some of the easy looks on dribble drives that he had in the first game. He’s another guy that will be better evaluated once the full young core comes together.
All things considered though it was a great California Classic that was highly entertaining and some great talent got a chance to show off a bit. Now the Warriors move on to Las Vegas ready to show what they can muster with every team now in the mix.
