Warning to Meath residents after several cars stolen in mere hours

The residents of a Meath village have been urged to stay cautious after several cars were stolen in mere hours.

Car thieves targeted a number of neighbourhoods in Laytown in the span of three and half hours over Sunday night to Monday morning. Four cars were stolen from Corballis, Coney Hall, and The Woods Inse Bay areas of Laytown between 9pm on October 30 to 12.30am on October 31.

Three of the cars were recovered, a garda spokesman confirmed. He added that no arrests have been made in connection to the thefts.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses as part of investigations into the string of thefts. A spokesperson said: "Anybody who may have noticed anything suspicious in any of these areas during this time are asked to please contact Laytown Garda Station on 041-9813320, Ashbourne Garda Station on 01-8010600 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111."

Additionally, the gardai have also issued the following tips to protect your vehicle from being stolen:

  • It is important to remember not to leave valuable items in your vehicle overnight. Wherever you park your car or van, take your property with you.
  • Ensure your car is locked, alarmed and parked in a safe location. If your vehicle is left unlocked, it makes it very easy for the opportunist criminal to succeed.
  • Store your keys safely, away from windows and letterboxes.
