People thinking of heading down under need to ensure they have their tourist visas in order ahead of their travel date.
Australia is a common choice amongst people looking to spend some time away. Regardless of how short a timeframe you'll be spending in the country, all travellers, excluding New Zealand citizens, must have a visa or travel authority before their departure.
People should apply for their tourist visa well in advance so their trip can go ahead smoothly. It's important to note that there is no visa office in Ireland's Australian embassy.

Instead, Irish tourists need to apply for their visa through the Australian High Commission in London. This can be done easily online through ImmiAccount, although people should check their eligibility for a visa ahead of time.
Luckily, tourist visas are easily processed. People can stay for up to three months on their holiday visa in the country. The Australian government also offers six and 12 month tourist visas for people hoping to spend more time away.
Irish residents visiting Australia can also avail of the country's public health system if they require medical care during their stay. This is thanks to a reciprocal agreement that Ireland has with Australia that covers any ill health or injury.
Further information on travelling to Australia from Ireland is available online.
