Warning issued over civilian aircrafts in Russian airspace after recent drone attacks

  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned airlines , insurers, and passengers that Russian airspace is completely unsafe ahead of recent drone attacks last week.
  • Ukraine officially notified the International Civil Aviation Organisation of the risks to civil aviation in Russian airspace to prevent unintended incidents.
  • Most Western airlines suspended flights over Russia in 2022, but several Chinese, Turkish, and Gulf state carriers continue to operate routes through or to the country.
  • The International Civil Aviation Organisation highlighted heightened risks of civilian aircraft being targeted or caught in crossfire within active conflict zones.
  • Following the safety warnings, flight delays were reported at major Russian hubs, including Moscow's Sheremetyevo International and St Petersburg Pulkovo airports.
