A watchdog has revealed that over a third of UK adults are unaware of the NHS Health Check, commonly known as the "mid-life MOT".
A new poll indicates that 55 per cent of eligible men and 53 per cent of eligible women have never been invited for the vital check-up, despite most invited individuals attending.
The NHS Health Check is intended for people aged 40 to 74 without long-term conditions, assessing risks for conditions like heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, stroke, and dementia for those over 65.
Healthwatch England has urged greater awareness, clearer information, and ensuring all eligible individuals receive invitations, noting that reduced public health funding has led to the service being deprioritised.
The organisation has called for the Government to collect and publish data on invitations and to include specific actions within the upcoming Men’s Health Strategy to address cardiovascular disease and inequalities in access.
