Warner Bros executives have signaled that 2027 could be a major year for the Wizarding World, with strong hints that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy may align with the debut of HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter adaptation.
During a recent earnings discussion highlighted by Variety, JB Perrette, who oversees global streaming and gaming for the company, acknowledged that 2025 marked a “reset year” for the games division after spreading resources too thin across multiple intellectual properties. Moving into 2026, they’re finally coming back to gaming with titles like LEGO Batman game and a Game of Thrones-themed mobile game named Dragon Fire.

Perrette added that the “real fruits” of that strategy will begin to show in 2027 and 2028 as the company returns to some of its biggest brands. While he did not name specific titles, the timing strongly suggests a new Hogwarts Legacy installment could be in development to coincide with the HBO series launch.
The original Hogwarts Legacy was a commercial juggernaut in 2023, becoming one of the year’s top-selling titles and proving the enduring strength of the Wizarding World in gaming. Developed by Avalanche Software, the game carved out its own corner by setting the story in the 1800s, well before the events of the main book series.
A sequel could expand further on the 1800s setting, or move closer to the timeline familiar to fans of Harry Potter if Warner Bros. wants stronger thematic ties with the HBO series. It could also address several fan requests from the first game, including deeper RPG systems, more meaningful choices, the addition of Quidditch, the ability to visit other Wizarding schools, expanded companion storylines, multiplayer, and a more dynamic open world.
Aligning a sequel with a high-profile television reboot would give Warner Bros. a rare cross-platform moment, spanning streaming and interactive entertainment.
Nothing has been formally announced, and Warner Bros. Games has yet to confirm a sequel. Still, with executives openly pointing to 2027 as a return to flagship franchises, the pieces appear to be falling into place for a major Hogwarts comeback alongside the HBO series.
