- Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch has revealed that the party has instructed lawyers to legally challenge central government funding cuts aimed at Wandsworth Council.
- The Conservatives claim that a 40 per cent reduction in funding from the Labour Government is forcing the council to raise its local council tax by 94 per cent .
- Speaking on BBC Two's Newsnight, Badenoch accused the Government of intentionally withdrawing public resources from non-Labour regions to reallocate them to Labour-voting areas.
- Wandsworth Council is among a small number of local authorities granted special two-year funding realignment powers, enabling tax increases above the standard 5 per cent cap.
- Badenoch argued that forcing local families to absorb such a substantial tax increase is unfair, maintaining that budget allocations should not be manipulated based on political voting patterns.
