Rumors of shoppers pulling back on spending have been beaten back, with Walmart on Thursday proving that it remains a retailer in a class of its own.

The U.S.'s largest retailer beat analyst expectations, reporting quarterly earnings of $169.3 billion, a 4.8% increase compared to the year before, in its latest earnings call. Sales for the quarter were up 4.2%.
