Wall Street entered a busy earnings week trading near record highs, but more than half of America's stock and mutual fund wealth is concentrated among the richest 1% of households, according to the latest Federal Reserve figures, highlighting the unequal ownership of financial assets as markets continue to climb.
The wealthiest 1% held 50.9% of U.S. corporate equities and mutual fund shares in the second quarter of 2026, compared with just 0.6% owned by the bottom half of households. The figures come from the Federal Reserve's Distributional Financial Accounts, updated September 18.
