Wales v Argentina: All the Cardiff road closures in place as GWR issues warning to fans

Road closures will take place in Cardiff for the Wales v Argentina game at the Principality Stadium this weekend. With kick-off for the Autumn Internationals game taking place at 5.30pm on Saturday, November 12, a full city centre road closure will be in place from 1.30pm to 9.30pm.

Cardiff Council has advised those planning to travel by car to plan ahead as the M4 motorway is expected to be very busy. As gates open at 3pm, the council has also advised people to plan their journey and get in early. Great Western Railway (GWR) is providing 22 trains for fans heading home from the game, however, the company warned fans that services will be busy and a queueing system will be in place outside Cardiff Central Station.

GWR is also reminding fans travelling on Saturday, November 19 for the Wales vs Georgia game in Cardiff, or to Twickenham for the England vs New Zealand match, that planned strike action by Network Rail signalling staff will significantly affect GWR journeys. Further industrial action by the train drivers’ union, Aslef, on Saturday, November 26 will heavily impact fans intending to use GWR services for the Wales vs Australia and England vs South Africa matches.

GWR director of performance and train service delivery, Daryn McCombe, said: "If you’re travelling back towards London and Bristol on November 19 following the Wales vs Georgia match, there is only a limited time that we’ll be able to get you home. The temptation might be to stay behind for some food and drink, but with a queueing system in place, a limited number of trains and a limited operating window, we’d encourage supporters to make their way to the station straight after the match to avoid missing the trains we are able to operate towards London and Bristol."

Here is the travel information you need to know for the Wales v Argentina match, including road closures, trains, buses, and parking facilities.

Road Closures

From 7am, Scott Road and Park Street will be closed because of the need to prepare Gate 5 and protect queuing fans. The following roads will be closed as part of the full city centre road closure which will take place at 1.30pm until 9.30pm:

  • Kingsway from its junction with North Road to its junction with Duke Street.

  • Cowbridge Road East from its junction with Cathedral Road to its junction with Westgate Street.

  • Tudor Street from its junction with Clare Road to its junction with Wood Street (access for residents and traders will be permitted via Fitzhammon Embankment.)

  • The following roads will be closed in their entirety: Duke Street, Castle St, High Street, St Mary Street, Caroline Street, Wood Street, Central Square, Westgate Street, Quay Street, Guildhall Place, Golate, Park Street, Havelock Street and Scott Road.

Access to part of the Civic Centre will be controlled throughout the day, with access allowed only for event parking, limited commuter parking, loading and access to private car parks. Roads affected include King Edward VII Avenue, Museum Avenue, City Hall Road, College Road and Gorsedd Gardens Road.
