Wales' Natalie Powell takes Commonwealth silver in judo after tight contest with England's Emma Reid

Natalie Powell claimed silver in the -78kg judo in Coventry.

Powell was unable to repeat her Glasgow 2014 gold medal success, losing to England's Emma Reid in the final.

The 31-year-old from Merthyr Tydfil put up a valiant effort but Reid emerged the victor 1-0 as the fight timed out.

Two-time Olympic judo silver medallist Neil Adams said on the BBC: "One more attack, is it going to happen? Yes, Emma Reid has stolen it!

"It was a lovely match. She had to hold on then, all the way through the contest but congratulations to Reid because she did a great job against an in-form Powell."

Scotland's Rachel Tytler beat Canada's Coralie Godbout to win bronze.

It means Wales have now won 14 medals at the Commonwealth Games - three golds, three silvers and eight bronzes.

Wales are eighth in the overall standings, behind Australia, England, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, India and Scotland.
