Wales international Ashley Beck will continue as a Merthyr player while being registered for Europe with Cardiff.
Cardiff have named the seven-cap player in their squad for the EPCR Challenge Cup, but at this point that’s as far as his link with the Arms Park club goes.
Ex-Ospreys man Beck fell victim to the meltdown at Worcester Warriors earlier in the season, with the cultured centre and the rest of the Sixways players left without jobs amid a financial collapse. You can read more about Beck's plight here.

Merthyr signed him for the remainder of the campaign but he is believed to have trained with Cardiff ahead of their recent South Africa tour. He didn’t actually travel to the republic, though, and this weekend he makes his debut for the Ironmen when they host Newport at The Wern in the Indigo Welsh Premiership.
“We are just delighted to have Ashley on board,” said Merthyr coach Rowland Phillips.
“He’s playing for us and is registered for Europe with Cardiff.
“He has a lot of quality and he’s still at the top end of his game.
“Ashley just wants to play. The situation at Worcester was terrible for all involved, but we’re in a position to offer him rugby and it’s a chance for him to get back on the field again. He’s international level and it will be great for our younger boys to have someone like him around.”
Beck won the last of his caps in 2013, featuring in the win over Tonga in Cardiff.
Dan Fish, who proved a European star for Cardiff last term barely two months after announcing his retirement as a professional player, also features in the Arms Park club’s 2022-23 Euro squad.
