Wales football fans pictured cleaning up Belgian streets after partying as locals bowled over

Belgian police praised Wales fans for cleaning up in Brussels city centre after partying in the region ahead of their side's Nations League clash with the Red Devils.

More than 2,500 members of the Red Wall travelled to the Belgian capital to watch Rob Page's side in Nations League action at the King Baudouin Stadium on Thursday night.

Prior to the match, a large contingent of Wales supporters partied in the heart of the city. You can read more on that here.

In the aftermath of the wild scenes among Wales fans, images have been circulated of supporters cleaning up the streets of the city centre, with many filling bin bags with discarded cans and bottles.

A post from the official Brussels Police Twitter account read: "It is not uncommon to run into fans before the start of a Red Devils football match in the centre of #Brussel. We would like to thank the fans of the opposing team @Cymru #Wales for leaving the place as they found it: 'Clean'."

Philippe Close, the mayor of Brussels, also thanked Wales fans for their behaviour in the Belgian city. "Hats off to the supporters of the Wales team who after partying in the city centre pick up their rubbish," he wrote on Twitter. "An example to follow!"

FAW chief executive Noel Mooney said: We have the best fans in the world. Diolch y Wal Goch".

Wales were second best in the first half against Roberto Martinez's side and trailed 2-0 as goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Michy Batshuayi put the hosts in command.

Kieffer Moore pulled a goal back for Wales early on in the second half, although, despite an improved showing from the visitors after the restart, they were unable to find a late equaliser.

It means they go into Sunday's clash with Poland needing a win to avoid relegation from the top tier of the Nations League. Kick-off in Cardiff is at 7.45pm.
