Wales boss backs reported Leeds United target to shine in the Premier League

Wales manager Rob Page has backed reported Leeds United target Brennan Johnson to shine in the Premier League with Nottingham Forest. Johnson came off the bench on Saturday with Wales 1-0 down at home to Belgium and netted a late equaliser to earn their first point of the Nations League.

The 21-year-old has transferred his form at club level onto the international stage during the June period of matches. Johnson won the EFL Young Player of the Season award after scoring 16 goals and providing nine assists as Forest ended their 23-year wait for Premier League football with success in the play-offs.

Leeds, along with several other top-flight clubs, had been linked with a move for Johnson this summer, though that now looks unlikely as he prepares to represent his boyhood club at the highest level. Via quotes from Wales Online, Page believes there is even ‘more to come’ from Johnson and is excited to see how he performs in the Premier League.

He said: “He came on as sub last week [against Ukraine] and hit the post with his first touch I think. He's a wonderful talent. I'm looking forward to watching him in the Premier League next season and watching him grow with us because every time he comes on he impresses, shows his worth so he deserved his goal. He's got a lot more to come as well.

"We see it day in day out. We had a chat with him yesterday. Alan Knill showed him his clips back and where we think he can improve. He's shown it again tonight."
