Wakefield Trinity’s highly-rated young centre Corey Hall has made a surprise switch to Hull KR in a permanent deal which sees Robins full-back Will Dagger move the other way.
Hall, who shot onto the scene with Trinity last term and only signed a new contract in October, has joined KR until the end of 2025. Dagger, 24, has been released from the final year of his contract to take up Wakefield’s offer. He is behind Aussie star Lachlan Coote at Craven Park but Trinity are in desperate need of a No1 after losing Max Jowitt and Lee Gaskell both sidelined by injuries.
Hull KR can confirm the club have released Will Dagger from the final year of his contract to join Wakefield Trinity while Corey Hall joins the Robins from the West Yorkshire club, both with immediate effect. Hall, 20, will hope to come into contention to face former club Leeds on Friday and Robins boss Willie Peters said: ‘We’re delighted for Corey Hall to join us at Hull KR.
“He’s a talented player for the future and definitely a Super League centre people will get to know more about in years to come. He’s in the early stages of his development, but we’re looking forward to working with him over the next two and a half years. It was a good opportunity for both players. Firstly, for Dags to be able to play first grade every week. I think it’s an important move for him at this stage in his career and we’ve given him that opportunity. On behalf of the club I’d like to thank Will for his contribution to Hull KR and what he’s brought to the team on and off the field.”
The East Yorkshire club had been chasing Hall for some time and Wakefield boss Mark Applegarth said: “First of all, I’d like to thank Corey for his brilliant service to Wakefield Trinity. It’s been no secret that we have been on the search for a full-back, so we have reluctantly let Corey move onto new pastures at Hull KR to be able to bring Will in. As a club, we wish Corey nothing but the best. I’m delighted Will is on board with us and I’m looking forward to getting him into training and to start working with him. He will certainly add to our squad in that fullback role with his ability and skillset, and I know that he is really excited to be linking up with us.”
Dagger started out at Wakefield in their scholarship before making his first-team debut with Castleford and having a spell with Warrington before joining Rovers five years ago. He is set to debut at champions St Helens on Friday.
