One of West Australian Premier Mark McGowan's children has been discharged from a Perth Hospital "after a very worrying four days" after becoming unwell with Covid-19.
The premier's office had confirmed on Friday one of his three children was in a serious condition as a result of the virus, despite being fully vaccinated.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the premier said the child was now back home.
"The McGowan family would like to thank everyone for their supportive and kind comments," the statement said.
"After a very worrying four days, the Premier's child is now recovering at home with family.
"The McGowan family thanks the committed hospital staff for all their work and care."
Mr McGowan — who has also tested positive and remains in isolation — has received messages of support from both Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese.
Deputy Premier Roger Cook said he had been exchanging texts with the Premier and sending his well wishes to his family.
He said the Premier was continuing to carry out at least some of his duties and had remotely chaired a meeting.
"You can tell he's got the disease, but he's very strong and he's continuing to do his work from home and maintaining great leadership for the government during this difficult time," he said.
"But, you know, COVID-19 is a serious disease and I'm sure he's had better days."
Mr Cook reminded people with COVID-19 to seek help if their condition worsened.
"It's important people monitor their health and get extra care if they feel their health deteriorating," he said.
Mr McGowan initially went into isolation on Wednesday after one of his family members tested positive.
He then announced on Friday morning that a positive PCR result meant he would be in isolation until at least next Thursday afternoon.
Mr McGowan's positive diagnosis came after Federal Labor leader Anthony Albanese also tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, derailing his plan to visit WA on the weekend.
Mr Albanese is still planning to launch Labor's campaign in Perth next Sunday, in a sign of how important the state is viewed in the May 21 federal election.
Labor hopes to win the seats of Pearce and Swan from the Liberals and is also targeting the seat of Hasluck, currently held by Indigenous Affairs Minister Ken Wyatt.
Both Mr Albanese and Prime Minister Scott Morrison have sent messages of support to Mr McGowan and his family.
WA recorded 7,758 new COVID-19 cases to 8pm on Friday, bringing the total number of active cases in the state to 44,683.
WA Health has reported one historical death, a woman in her 80s, dating back to April 12.
There were 248 people with COVID-19 in hospital with seven in ICU.
Of the 7,758 new cases, 3,410 were detected by a PCR test and the remaining 4,348 were self-reported positive rapid antigen tests.
