Vv Pete Spills On Aussie Music Mentors, Dream Collabs & Being ‘Australia’s Badeśt’

veve-pete-interview

We’re now well into our Pass the AUX series, where we’ll make it our month-long mission to Ausify your playlist all throughout November.

ICYMI, we’re celbrating Ausmusic month with a Pass the AUX series in which we, with the help of some of Aussie music’s biggest stars, offer our suggestions for the homegrown tracks that’ll Ausify your playlist with the best our industry has to offer.

With Keli Holiday already added to your playlist, we now present you with the absolute bangers of Aussie rapper and genre-bender Vv Pete

Known for her razor-sharp bars and club-ready beats, Vv Pete is leading the charge of Australia’s new wave of rap, so we had no choice but to add her to our weekly rotation of homegrown stars for our Pass the AUX series.

Below, we Pass the AUX to Vv Pete for the lowdown on her musical mentors and favourite up-and-coming stars, but in the meantime, be sure to stream her 2025 album VARVIE WORLD so your algorithm is recalibrated with those stellar Aussie tunes.

What is your first memory of music?

Vv Pete: Freestyling in my primary school classroom, everyone gravitating to the music and my teacher telling me, V you’re about to be a big thing.

How did you get your start in the music industry?

Vv Pete: I got my start by heading over to Street University in Mount Druitt, introducing my artist name as Vv Pete and introducing my work to the community with the help of mentors like Esky and Stan.

What is the Aussie song that reminds you of someone special in your life and why?

Vv Pete: “Firestarter”, Samanatha Jade. The song is all about love and confidence, it builds an adrenaline within me.

What Australian artist would you most like to collaborate with and why?

Vv Pete: My homegirl Birdie, she’s very authentic and different, and I love that.

What’s your go-to Aussie tune for hyping yourself up?

Vv Pete: Definitely have to go for one of my own tracks, “Jordan 1s”.

What’s your go-to Aussie tune for karaoke and/or screaming in the car?

Vv Pete: “Girls” by The Kid LAROI.

What’s your go-to Aussie tune to get a dance floor pumping?

Vv Pete: “What You’ve Done To Me” by Samantha Jade.

What’s your go-to Aussie tune for having a main character moment?

Vv Pete: “WASSA” by Vv Pete.

What’s your pre-gig ritual?

Vv Pete: Acknowledging the universe, Allah, the ancestors and acknowledging that I am about to go into a big stage and change people’s energy, and absorb so much energy, and consider the energy I’m going to share with the Varvies – are they ready for it?

What’s something surprising or inspiring about the music industry that most people wouldn’t know?

Vv Pete: The hype around it. Once you’re really involved, it’s literally like your 9 to 5. You write your story, you create your journey, and you are your chapter, so you make it as you go.

How can we support the next generation of Aussie music talent?

Vv Pete: Acknowledging there are Australian musicians, not just to dismiss our own. And to acknowledge that Australian artists are taking risks.

Is there any up and coming Aussie talent you think we should be keeping an eye on?

Vv Pete: One of them is Vv Pete, who goes by the name of Queen of Sydney and is also known as “Australia’s Badeśt you know”… Bah!

You established your musical identity straight out the gate. When it comes to growing and developing this identity, what are things you keep in mind?

Vv Pete: I like to keep in mind who I am, where I come from, and my culture and how I’m raised. I love to story-tell so thinking about this helps me to elevate. The key to life is staying authentic, do not put another mask on that does not fit your face. Stay who you are, stay true to yourself.

Your lyrics have a nice balance between flow on top of articulating your emotions/experience. What’s your approach when it comes to lyric writing?

Vv Pete: I ask myself, what do I want to spread into the universe? Am I spreading magic, positively? Am I spreading magic negatively? Am I story telling? Am I fixating? What am I doing? That’s my approach.

And finally… let’s Pass the AUX. Which Aussie act should PEDESTRIAN.TV readers be adding to their playlists?

Vv Pete: Let’s go Vv Pete. Vv Pete represents Australia, she is up next, so Pass the AUX.
