Vulnerable residents given Christmas dinner 'they never expected'

Vulnerable Ayrshire residents were given the Christmas dinner ‘they never expected’ to have thanks to kind volunteers.

A van-load of food hit the streets of Troon over the festive period to deliver meals to those who otherwise would have gone without.

Christmas dinners were nestled in amongst essentials all packed into dozens of bags.

The Christmas care-packages were sent out just days before the big day thanks to selfless volunteers at Muirhead Tenants & Residents Association.

Chairperson Frances Carson was driven around by Iain Brown as supplies reached households in need.

The bags were all made possible thanks to a £500 donation from Troon barbers The Mane Man, with the food gathered by a hero supermarket worker.

Frances told Ayrshire Live: “It was so important we could help families who couldn’t afford a Christmas dinner.

“Things have been so tough with the cost-of-living crisis whether that be for single parents or older people.

“We were able to give them a Christmas dinner they never expected to have.”

Each bag contained a collection of fruit, vegetables, frozen chicken, cereal and long life UHT milk and Christmas treats, including mince pies.

Frances added: “Thanks to Suzie at the Mane Man we were given £500 and another mystery person donated funds out of the goodness of their heart.

“We want to thank Amy of Morrisons Troon, who made things a lot easier by gathering the items on our shopping list for us to buy.

“And our dedicated delivery driver Iain."
