VR warehouse where you can battle zombies is opening in Manchester

The 'world's first' virtual reality entertainment warehouse has opened in Manchester. The free-roaming, multi-player VR zone occupies a space the size of a tennis court and entails zombie battles, intergalactic firefights in space and competitive player vs player battles.

The concept comes from Zero Latency who are looking to revitalise social gaming by creating 'next-generational' entertainment up and down the country. Unlike other virtual reality games, where players tend to play solo in a confined area whilst tethered to a computer or cords, Zero Latency players can freely roam, explore and battle together.

As part of the warehouse-scale VR experience, players enter the arena kitted out with headsets, headphones and a gun - for shooter games - and have to navigate their full-motion avatars. Senses will be heightened as gamers manoeuvre through the hyper-realistic virtually generated world, all within the 250 square metre vSports arena.

John Lilley, Chief Experience Officer at Zero Latency said: “We’re delighted to launch meetspaceVR in Manchester, the UK’s capital for social gaming and eSports. Having been a long standing video gaming hub, it’s been our ambition to open a store in the city and share with the North West the best warehouse scale free-roam, multiplayer VR entertainment experiences from Zero Latency.

"There’s a growing appetite for cutting-edge socially engaging VR experiences and the games we offer cater to a wide audience from avid-gamers to first time visitors, but at the heart of every game is the key aspect that gaming is better when played together. We look forward to see how the North West tackles these missions, and can’t wait to watch players battle against zombies and sacrifice their friends so that they can win!”

The range of VR experiences are aimed at first-time gamers and thrill seekers, with games featuring advanced storytelling, realistic enemies and epic battles. The whole experience is tailored to be ultra competitive as groups are ranked against one another based on their skillset.

On offer at the new Manchester space will be Zombie Survival, Outbreak Origins, a fort surrounded by a mass of zombies, where the aim of the game is to stay alive until the rescue team arrives; FarCry VR, which requires players to navigate across islands; Singularity, where teams can take on killer robots and drones at a secret military space station; and Engineerium; an avatar-like fantasy world full of maze challenges - ideal for first-time gamers.

MeetspaceVR's Manchester branch is open and is located at MeetspaceVR, North3, Unit 2, Brightgate Way, Stretford, Manchester, M32 0TB. Sessions can be pre-booked at www.meetspacevr.co.uk.
