The measles outbreak in Pennsylvania is continuing to grow, with 55 new cases confirmed since Wednesday, ABC News reported. This latest update from the state health department brings the total number of cases so far this year to 890, spreading across 39 counties. In this span, at least 173 people have been hospitalized, and four measles-associated deaths have been reported.
From the Pennsylvania Department of Health data, the trend regarding vaccination status is clear. Fewer than 1% of the state cases, which amounts to only four people in total, are among those who are fully vaccinated with the measles, mumps, rubella vaccine. The majority of the cases are among those between ages 25 and 49, followed by those between ages 18 and 24. Lancaster County is currently seeing the highest number of cases at 359, while Mifflin County follows with 102.
