Voters To Decide On Wide Range Of Issues This Fall

This fall, voters across 41 states will have the opportunity to weigh in on more than 140 measures alongside the selection of top officials. These ballot questions cover a wide range of critical issues, allowing voters to directly influence consequential matters rather than relying solely on elected representatives.

Abortion

In response to the 2022 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that shifted abortion rights to states, at least nine states are considering constitutional amendments to enshrine abortion rights. These amendments would guarantee a right to abortion until fetal viability and later for the health of pregnant women.

Assisted Suicide

West Virginia has a proposed amendment to prohibit medically assisted suicide, contrasting with the 10 states and Washington, D.C., where physician-assisted suicides are allowed.

Marriage

States like California, Colorado, and Hawaii are looking to repeal unenforceable provisions against same-sex marriage.

Pay and Benefits

Minimum wage increases and paid sick leave are on the ballot in several states, with varying approaches to tipped workers.

Prison Labor

Proposals in California and Nevada seek to repeal provisions allowing involuntary servitude as punishment for crimes.

Property Taxes

North Dakota voters will decide on eliminating property taxes, while other states are considering measures to cap or reduce property taxes.

Redistricting

Ohio and Utah have initiatives related to redistricting, including the creation of citizens commissions and legislative oversight of voter-approved initiatives.

Sports Betting

Missouri voters will determine whether to legalize sports betting, following the trend in many other states since the U.S. Supreme Court's 2018 decision.
