Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema believes the club granting her a recent leave of absence has been key to an upturn in form.
Miedema scored the winning goal for the Gunners last night as they beat Juventus 1-0 at Emirates Stadium to stay top of their Champions League group with two games to go.
The goal was the Dutch international’s third in as many games and came after she was given “some time off to rest and recharge” at the start of November.
Miedema, who had around three weeks off, believes the break was crucial for her and sparked an upturn in form.
“I think you can see it in my game now, I really needed it,” she said. “You could see in my game before and I’m just really happy that I've had my break. Three more games now until the Christmas break and we just need to keep winning.”
Arsenal are in a commanding position in their Champions League group as they are top with two matches to go. They are three points clear of Lyon, whom they host next week at Emirates Stadium, and five ahead of Juve in third.
“We want to be first in our Champions League group,” said Miedema. “We want to beat Lyon here at the Emirates as well. We did it last time [away from home].
“They’re going to be a completely different side, obviously, but we just need to regroup, try and keep everyone fit, and go again.”
