VisionQuest star Paul Bettany says the upcoming MCU show realizes that "Marvel gets rewarded when it takes really big swings"

White Vision in WandaVision.

Much like its predecessor WandaVision, VisionQuest will be a "big swing" for Marvel, says its star Paul Bettany.

"I think that Terry [Matalas, showrunner] realized, and agreed with me, that I feel like Marvel gets rewarded when it takes really big swings," Bettany told ScreenRant. "And I think that he just understood in his bones who Vision is. And Vision is for the kid that I was when I was a kid – the kid that felt like an outsider and felt like they had no community that they fit into. And he knew who these stories are for and who Vision is for. And I think we made a really fun and entertaining show about a guy who's an outsider and trying to find out who he is."

Vision died in Avengers: Infinity War, but Wanda created a hex version of him to live with her in an altered reality version of Westview, New Jersey in WandaVision. That's not the version of Vision in VisionQuest, though – SWORD reactivated his real body, and he now has all of Hex Vision's memories after the two androids fought it out in the series finale.

He's not the only character back from the dead, either: James Spader is set to make his return as Ultron, despite being destroyed by Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

"I would have to say, if you're a fan of Paul Bettany and James Spader, [VisionQuest] is a delivery system for those two," Matalas, who previously worked on Star Trek: Picard, told the publication. "It's one of my most favorite things, even in post. It's so delicious to watch these two cut it up. I'm very proud of it and can't wait for you to see it."

Next up for Marvel is Daredevil: Born Again season 2, which debuts next month and sees Krysten Ritter make her long-awaited MCU debut as Jessica Jones.

VisionQuest is arriving on Disney Plus sometime in 2026. In the meantime, check out our guide to the other upcoming Marvel movies and shows on the way as part of Marvel Phase 6.
