VISAKHAPATNAM: The RK beach here on Sunday reflected a war zone as well as a tourist spot with tens of thousands of people thronging the spot to watch the naval operational demonstration (op-demo) and the International City Parade (ICP) during the ongoing Indian Navy’s multilateral exercise MILAN.
The Indian Navy displayed its maritime, air and onshore capabilities, putting forth the might of its fleet. The operation demonstration gives an opportunity for the public to have a closer glimpse at the multi-furious activities of the navy and the challenges that naval personnel experience at sea.
The op-demo commenced with a bomb burst manoeuvre followed by the formation fly-past by Hawk fighter aircrafts. The demo showcased various operations by the Indian Navy including special operations and sky diving by marine commandos, rescue operations by naval helicopters and fly-past by naval aircraft. The sky diving demonstration was the show stealer, where six divers landed next to the dais and presented a memento to chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who was the chief guest. The chief minister addressed the audience on completion of operational demonstration and extended a warm welcome to all the international participants.
“It was for the first time that I witnessed op-demo and I was very amazed to see the bravery and splendid coordination of the naval personnel. The 30-minute op-demo gave us the impression that our blue waters are in safe hands,” said Siva Kumar, K, a resident of Vizag city.
