VISAKHAPATNAM: DRI sleuths from Visakhapatnam regional unit seized 1,169 kg of cannabis on Sunday.
Based on a specific input that ganja was being transported by a person on a truck bearing UP number plate on NH-16, from Anakapalle towards Hyderabad via Vijayawada, DRI sleuths conducted checks in the early hours and spotted the truck which was found in an abandoned state in a trench near Gobburu in Anakapalle district.
The contraband was concealed in gunny bags. The officers crane-lifted and then shifted the truck along with the contraband.
Meanwhile, the officers seized over 230 kg of dry ganja from a car at Paderu in Alluri Sitarama Raju district on Monday. However, the smuggler managed to flee.
